1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396

This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS is the product of an extensive, ground-up restoration and customization project in which virtually no part of the vehicle was left untouched. The car was acquired by the current owner from a second owner in a largely disassembled state, but retains its numbers-matching engine, transmission, and rear end. The Chevelle is powered by its original 396ci V8, bored 30-over, with a reground crankshaft, reworked connecting rods, and new pistons. The engine has been further built with a Comp cam, PRW roller rockers, and an Edelbrock Torker II aluminum intake, fed by a Holley Sniper EFI system paired with a new fuel tank and fuel pump. Supporting components include an XS high-torque starter, an MSD billet electronic distributor, and a twin-fan radiator from Engineered Cooling Products, with spent gases exiting through American Racing long-tube headers and a 3-inch stainless header-back exhaust system with an X-pipe. Power is routed through the original M-20 Muncie four-speed transmission, fully rebuilt and fitted with a Hurst Competition shifter, a 3-inch aluminum driveshaft, and a rebuilt, powder-coated 12-bolt rear differential and axles. Externally, the Chevelle has been refinished in a custom PPG Navy Pearl base with White Pearl Crystal White stripes. The chassis has been upgraded with a full BMR Level 2 performance suspension package and Baer Track 4 brakes with a matching master cylinder and proportioning valve, with ARP fasteners and custom machined washers used throughout the build. Extensive bodywork includes opened inner fenders to showcase the tubular suspension and sway bars, a smoothed firewall with heater and fan openings shaved, and front and rear wheel openings widened by 1.5 inches with custom-fabricated flares. Side marker lamps, door locks, and handles have been shaved, with reach-in push-button door openers added at the rear of each door. The rockers and quarter panels were extended 2.75 inches lower using blind-bolt mounting, while the front and rear bumpers were sectioned and integrated into the fenders and quarter panels, with the license plate opening filled and all mounting hardware replaced with studs for a cleaner look. A modified front splitter completes the front-end treatment, and the car rolls on 18-inch Foose wheels wrapped in Nitto NT555 tires. The interior receives the same level of attention, with the cabin fully soundproofed using Dynamat sound deadener. Recaro Specialist front seats and custom rear bucket seats have been reupholstered in Italian leather to match the headliner. The dashboard has been modified following the removal of the radio and cigarette lighter openings, with a JL Audio speaker system controlled through a Kenwood head unit mounted in the center console. Eddie Motorsport aluminum door sills are custom-engraved, and the car features an Ididit steering column with integrated push-button start and headlight dimmer controls. A Vintage Air Gen-IV air conditioning system has been relocated under the dash for a cleaner appearance.
